President's Message

Max Rodriguez Chamber Pres.

Greetings,

The Hempstead Chamber of Commerce has served the business community of the Incorporated Village of Hempstead since 1905.  It is the oldest Chamber on Long Island. For more than a century the mission of the Chamber has gone unchanged:

To improve the climate of the Village so that entities doing business within the Village will be able to grow and prosper.

We have had our challenges.  Hempstead served as the Hub of commercial activity in Nassau County since the seventeenth century, until the development of the first shopping mall in the United States, Roosevelt Field, in the early 1950s, changed the shopping habits of Nassau County residents forever, redirecting purchasing power away from the elegant stores in Hempstead to the glamour and appeal of the one stop shop opportunities available first in Roosevelt Field and quickly followed by large malls throughout the County.

Now in 2011 we stand at the crossroads. Within two years the Village of Hempstead will embark on an important adventure as major downtown renovation projects move forward bringing new life and new opportunities for residential, commercial and industrial development into the Village. The Village is in the process of reinventing itself, adding exciting new prospects for expansion and prosperity. As this happens, the mission of the Chamber remains the same, only more so, as we work to insure that existing businesses are able to utilize the new opportunities and that jobs are available to our residents. We will work to insure that the Hempstead High School students are involved in programs that are designed to insure that they will be taught the skills that will enable them to participate in the redevelopment of Hempstead’s downtown, from the planning and design phase to the construction phase and to the management of the businesses that result.

The Chamber will continue to serve as liaison between the community, business and government as we work together toward the solutions that will keep Hempstead on the map, as the Hub, as we enter this new phase in the development of our Village.
We promise to work hard to involve all of the various components of our very diverse Village.

We invite you to join with us.

President, Hempstead Chamber of Commerce
